The Dyscalculia Screener was originally launched in the early 2000’s, being the first web-based screener for dyscalculia (often referred to as math dyslexia). In 2016, iansyst Ltd partnered with Loughborough University to launch a new and refreshed version to make the screening process even easier. To find out more about dyscalculia symptoms, please follow this link to the Understood: Understanding Dyscalculia website.
The screener has been designed to screen both large groups and individuals who are struggling with maths in further education, higher education or in the workplace. The process generally takes less than an hour to complete and features a series of mathematical questions that the user will go through. These questions have been developed through extensive research and trials which can indicate factors that suggest the user is ‘at risk’ of dyscalculia. It is important to remember that the screener is specifically designed so that those taking it do not feel that their scores are extremely low, and therefore experience more anxiety.
The Dyscalculia Screener is based on a model of two objectives:
Establish the user’s understanding of numbers
Establish the user’s understanding of the application of number to other systems
There are six key areas which are tested: Number Conceptual; Number Comparative; Graphical; Symbolic Abstraction; Spatial Temporal; Operational.
The Dyscalculia Screener is web-based which means individuals can take the screening in their own time and at their own pace within 1 year of registration.
